Merchants Of Dreams - Contemporary Moroccan Art

Merchants of Dreams spotlights some of today’s most current topics: migration, mobility and the sense of belonging. No fewer than 18 artists are involved in this exhibition. It presents various ways of tackling concepts such as freedom, dreams and movement in the context of Morocco: as a place to live in, come from, leave, change and return to.

As a natural consequence of today’s globalisation, many artists are profoundly committed to highly topical issues such as politics, religion, gender and social conditions. The artists work in familiar media: audio, film, photography and installations. They apply humour, poetry and the perfection of craftsmen to their investigation of the terms ‘sense of belonging’ and ‘freedom’. What these artists have in common is a longing for change: whether living somewhere else or, quite simply, a better and freer life, wherever that may be.

Merchants of Dreams is a group exhibition in two parts: presented simultaneously at Brandts 13 and Viborg Kunsthal.

 

The participating artists have not previously exhibited in Denmark: Eric van Hove, Mounir Fatmi, Younes Rahmoun, Younes Baba Ali, Hicham Benohoud, Mohssin Harraki, Simohammed Fettaka, Mohammed Larbi Rahhali, Hamza Halloubi, Randa Maroufi, Laila Alaoui, Yasmine Hajji, Bouchra Ouizguen, Said Afifi, Zainab Andalibe, Ali Essafi, Houda Terjuman and  Abdellah Taïa.

 

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Viborg Kunsthal and freelance curator Christian Skovbjerg Jensen.
