The exhibition Fuck Architects (Chapter II) by mounir fatmi is a powerful invitation to question the power structures that define our world, both tangible and symbolic. fatmi, an international artist who has exhibited in cities such as New York, Tokyo, London, Paris and Johannesburg, explores in his works the dialogue between aesthetics and critique, shedding new light on universal themes such as cultural power, identity and memory.
The focus of this exhibition lies in architecture, understood not only as a physical manifestation of human domination, but also as a metaphor for the dynamics of control that permeate our societies. Fatmi challenges the majesty of large cities and their emblematic constructions, contrasting it with the often-overlooked reality of urban peripheries. It is a confrontation between the grandiose and the forgotten, between the celebrated and the oppressive.
Through simple and highly symbolic materials – such as VHS – the artist deconstructs the language of power. Each element becomes a vehicle for complex meanings: the cassettes echo an era of manipulation; the barriers recall limits and social rules often accepted uncritically.
In this exhibition, fatmi's cutting humor merges with an intense political reflection. It is an intellectual game that forces the viewer to reconsider their assumptions, a journey of discovery that transforms provocation into understanding.
Fuck Architects (Chapter II) is a stage in an artistic journey divided into several chapters, which began in New York and is destined to continue at the Havana Biennial. Each chapter expands fatmi's critical horizon, bringing to light new perspectives on fundamental themes and making clear how art can be a powerful tool to decode the complexities of our time.
