Depth of Field, exposition personnelle de mounir fatmi, présente une série d'œuvres inédites et d'installations in situ créées spécialement pour l'inauguration du Centre d'art contemporain Labanque-Béthune.
Le fantôme de Georges Bataille hante l'exposition et relie les thèmes sous-jacents des œuvres présentées : l'impuissance du langage, la multitude des perceptions et les divisions entre le corps, le sexe, l'histoire et la religion. Depth of Field interroge la pertinence de regarder une œuvre d'art dans un monde marqué par la violence et la fascination médiatique actuelle.
Par la nature violente de l'œuvre exposée et sa relation agressive avec le spectateur, mounir fatmi confronte dans Depth of Field les idées sur la perte du langage et du corps.

"This catalogue was made on the occasion of the exhibition Depth of Field by Moroccan artist mounir fatmi, at Labanque Bethune Contemporary Art Center, Bethune, from April 23rd to August 28th, 2016.
Depth of Field, a solo exhibition by mounir fatmi, features a series of new work and site-specific installations created specifically for the grand opening of Labanque Bethune Contemporary Art Center.
The ghost of Georges Bataille haunts the exhibition, and connects the underlying themes found in the work presented: the powerlessness of language, the multitude of perceptions, and the divisions between the body, sex, history and religion. Depth of Field questions the relevance of looking at a work of art in a world full of violence and current media fascination.
Through the violent nature of the work on view and its aggressive relationship to the viewer, in Depth of Field, mounir fatmi confronts ideas about the loss of language and the body.
