In mounir fatmi's complex aesthetic plot, nothing is ever left to chance. A mirror, a slit in the wood, a scalpel hidden behind a leg: these are all elements that conceal the juxtaposition between an object, its use and its cultural significance. Concentrating on the contradictions of language, the artist explores the methods of communicative correspondence, investigating them with the awareness of how they reflect the evolution of society. It is man's continual attempts of expression, which dictate the alphabet that all of cultural contemporaneity is based on, and is in the exaltation of their ambiguities and interpretative variables that the value can be read.
